From Season 3, straight into the next, HND1 student Joan kicks off season 4 of The Music Box Sessions with an improvised piano piece. He says "I was inspired by Bill Evans romanticism and from one of his pieces Called "Bill's hit tune". I was also inspired by Keith Jarret Piano Solo Improvisation." This week’s Music Box Session features BA student Glengo performing a cover of 'Don't Go Away' by Oasis. Glengo says "I have been working on an arrangement of this song for a few months, and the recent Oasis fever has encouraged me to make a recording of this Be Here Now classic. Music Box Sessions Season 4 | Fingertraps - Y Tú
This week’s Music Box Session features Fingertraps performing an original song 'Y Tú'. Fingertraps includes BA student Mateo and HND1 student Joan. Joan says: "Y Tú" is a song that was born more than a year ago. Mateo (the guitar from Fingertraps) based on a Brazilian piece "Xodo da Baiana by Dilarmando Reís" Work out this arrangement and Joan, lead vocal and pianist of Fingertraps, wrote the lyrics. Firstly, born for two guitars, started shifting as we begun to add drums with @Xabivillares (the drummer of Fingertraps) We moved from two melodic guitar to one guitar, one piano and drums. The piece started shifting from bossa nova/pop, to son/Cuban influenced music. This influenced started being more noticeable as we added a montuno for the piano, and we highlighted the rhythm section in a Cuban fashion. We were looking for something fresh an original and willing to work with other musicians! Then, we contacted Dominica. With Domi, we started working with the Voices arrangement and her bass line, she brought so much light, beautiful and powerful hints as a singer and as a bass player! We dreamt of having some brass and winds and we contacted with Javier and Victor. With Javier we worked out beautiful arrangement. He is such a talented musician and his ability to merge and adapt with his flute to any giving piece is beyond amazing, he added some flamenco and organic melodies. With Victor, (the trumpet player) we were aiming to have a reliable and professional trumpet player with a wide experience in Latin as well as Jazz music, hence, add this amazing strength and vibrancy to the piece. Altogether has been a beautiful experience working with such an amazing beings and musicians! Thanks!" Music Box Sessions Season 4 | Fearne Tomás Summersgill
This week’s Music Box Session features HN1 student Fearne Tomás Summersgill. She performs her original song 'Wreckage' and says "I wanted my song to reference the concept of time and mortality as I had all these existential thoughts that I felt I had to put into words. I was also playing with the concept of time throughout the song - how life is short, but also not moving quickly enough when wanting to distance myself from painful experiences. I guess my message is supposed to be that I'm not going to live forever, and I need to stop wasting my time trying to be someone else to please others and instead follow my 'truth'. I'm influenced mainly by my mum Holly Tómas as she was a songwriter too!"
